Frederieke Westerveld (The Netherlands, 1983) originally pursued a career in game writing, but after graduating in game design in 2010, a serious chronic condition quickly put a stop to that. Unwilling to spend the rest of her life hidden away at home,  she taught herself to sculpt and make molds. It was only after becoming a finalist in the international ARC Salon competition that she realized people might be interested in her work as well.

Even though Westerveld is only able to spend one to two hours a day on her work, her sculptures are intricate and detailed. Her background as a writer is reflected in the narrative quality of her work, where the emphasis is always placed on the characters – their emotions, motivations and  their relationships.
